Filming underwater with the new WestinCam in the Costa Rican Paradise
We took a quick jumper flight from San Jose to Golfito in southern Costa Rica and the amazing Zancudo Lodge – we were greeted by the owner, Greg, and his top-notch staff. After spending a couple of hours getting settled into our Marriott-looking type rooms, we were rigging up.
There were a lot of big Tunas around and quite a few Marlin, so we rigged our cameras with American Fishing Wire 7x7 steel wire, crimped it, and covered it with shrink tube.
We rigged some rods with deep divers for trolling, but also poppers and stick baits, more about that later.
We were going to fish with Cholo one of the top captains at Zancudo lodge with 25 years experience, we had planned for trolling, some live bait, popping and stick baits and anything else – we were hyped as there was so much fish around.
The species we were looking for were Tuna, Roosterfish, Sailfish, Marlin, and when jigging, Snapper and Grouper, we had it all with us.
We had four days of fishing, and on day one, we were looking for Tuna – and, boy, we saw them, and they were all over our live baits. Day 1 – They are known to be backbreakers, and the average size was high, probably around 60-100 lbs, but we saw fish weighing 200 lbs easily. The lodge record is 305 lbs, and that would have been a battle.
The next days we did a lot of lure fishing for Tuna and Sailfish, and we got it done all on the WestinCam underwater fishing camera. Fishing was on fire and we saw whales, 1000’s of spinner dolphins.
